The Brief

  • Create an online ordering system for business cards and other company stationery

The Method

Strategic Plan:  As the Online Ordering system was intended to streamline ordering for their clients, it was vital that we carefully explore all possibilities with Fineline right from the start.  We worked closely with the Sales team at Fineline to go through the process step-by-step so we could flag any potential issues that different types of clients might encounter, and rectify them before implementation.

Design:  The Online Ordering System didn’t need to be fancy – the emphasis was placed on keeping it simple to ensure functionality.  The user interface was kept clean and minimal, with coloured buttons to indicate progress through certain stages of the system.  The system also allows the interface to be customized to suit each client’s unique colour scheme and logo. 

System Functionality:  It was important that this new tool made online ordering of stationery as easy as possible, whether re-ordering letterheads for the office, or updating a business card template with a new office address.

The dynamic business card builder was the key feature of this new system.  Business card templates were set up for each of Fineline’s clients.  Each of these templates had unique fields with corresponding font colours, sizes, and so on allowing the user to login and easily create a business card for a new staff member, or to update phone numbers on an existing template, within minutes.

The system was also built to allow for users to save their orders and return to complete them at a later date.  They could also review their Order History and perform reports that could be printed or easily exported to Excel.

The Result

Fineline Printing can now offer their customized Online Ordering System as an added benefit to both their new and existing client base.  It also means streamlined processes for Fineline staff, as clients don’t need to contact the Sales team each time they require something – they can simply logon at any time of day and place an order.
